Fellowships & Awards

BOA Home Associates may apply for a variety of BOA Travelling Fellowships, which are subject to funding each year. These include:

BOA European Travelling Fellowships

Two awards of £1,500 to visit European centres of excellence.

BOA Travelling Fellowships

Two awards of £5,000 to visit centres of excellence abroad.

BOA Ram Kumar Chatterjee Travelling Fellowship

A travelling fellowship of £3,000, derived from the estate of the late Margaret Slack in memory of her husband, to enable trainee orthopaedic surgeons to obtain additional skills, expertise or experience at centres of excellence.

BOA Soli Lam General Fellowship

A Fellowship derived from the legacy of Soli Lam to undertake an approved fellowship in the UK or abroad in their chosen area of trauma and orthopaedics up to £3,000 (please note this is distinct from the Soli Lam Spinal Fellowship, see below).

BOA Soli Lam Spinal Fellowship

A Fellowship derived from the legacy of Soli Lam to undertake an approved spinal fellowship in the UK or abroad up to £10,000 (please note this is distinct from the Soli Lam General Fellowship, see above).

BOA ZimmerBiomet Fellowships

Various awards of €3000 are available annually to enable orthopaedic surgeons to visit centres of excellence abroad. Funding typically covers opportunities to support fellowships programmes as follows: one award in Trauma; four awards in Adult Reconstructive Orthopaedics in Hips and Knees; and one further award in Adult Reconstructive Extremities.

BOA ZimmerBiomet Passage to India Fellowships

There are two Passage to India Fellowships available with up to €1,500 in funds available to travel to India.

BOA Singhal Travelling Fellowship

A travelling fellowship of £1,500, based on generous donation from Cardiff Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Keshav Singhal, to enable a young orthopaedic surgeon to visit centres of excellence abroad in order to gain experience in a specialist area of their choice.

BOA EFORT Travelling Fellowship

A week in a European country in Spring, joining colleagues from EFORT member countries (BOA covers tour travel expenses for the tour; accommodation covered by hosts). The candidates must be trainees in Trauma and Orthopaedics and in their final three years of training.
